In Conversation with Lorie Dechar
Alchemical Healer. Integral Acupuncturist & Soul Surgeon. Artist. Author. Grandmother & Tender of Dreams.
The Creative Altar is pleased to present a live interview with author, alchemist, poet, healer, mentor and philosopher Lorie Eve Dechar. Although Lorie is usually based in Maine, in today's conversation she comes to us from Santa Fé, New Mexico on a retreat where she is working on birthing her latest book into the world. She speaks to Julie in her home studio in Toronto, Canada via zoom about the creative process, the inner critic, dreams, intuition and staying resourced enough so that we can stand by our creations as they find their way in the world.

This conversation explores the through lines and often intersecting roles of artist, healer and soul tender - from Lorie's early childhood experience of creating an animal cemetery, to the challenges she faced in publishing her first book Five Spirits; a book that went on to become a foundational text within the realm of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Alchemical Acupuncture and the wider international healing community.
The conversation explores the idea that all artwork has it's own inherent destiny or enthelechy, the role of creative flow, the definition of artistic success. At the heart of the intreveiw is an exploration of the role of the inner critic at different phases of the artistic process, and how this oftentimes destructive voice emerges from the collective shadow of a patriarchal society that discourages alchemical and transformational process. What emerges through this dynamic conversation, is a renewed sense of the importance of being resourced as we find the conviction and determination to stand by our creations and help birth them into the world.
